Analysis: Neoretin Discrom Control Serum

Neoretin serumIf you’re tired of trying a large number of facial serums and none give you the expected results, you may find the definitive solution to your problems in this article.

I’m going to analyze the Neoretin Discrom Control Serum from Cantabria Labs, and I hope this review sheds some light on what is the best treatment for your complexion.

As you know, the use of a serum is of great importance to achieve healthier and more beautiful skin. It’s not only much more concentrated, but it also enhances the effectiveness of other products we apply afterwards, for example, moisturizer.

We recommend: The best serums for your face

After trying a lot of different options, and after using a sample of the serum offered by Neoretin, I decided to buy it and give it a chance. With the tube now finished, I have been able to prepare an analysis of it and I’m showing you what my experience has been. Let’s get started!

Neoretin Discrom Control Serum: Product Presentation

The brand presents it as a concentrated formula that combines active ingredients and depigmenting and anti-spot technologies.

For this purpose, it uses the Whitening Booster System, a compound of six active ingredients that interfere in the formation of spots. And they combine it with RetinSphere Technology, which is responsible for unifying the skin tone, providing luminosity, and visibly attenuating spots caused by sun rays.

It is tested under dermatological and ophthalmological control, presents great tolerance, and has a price of approximately 30 euros.

Why did I choose it? Surely you have heard that skin has memory, right? Years ago, I subjected my skin to constant sun exposures without paying too much attention to protective cream, so, over time, this fact has ended up taking its toll.

The reason I decided to choose this treatment is because I want to get rid of some spots that have appeared on my face, and as no cosmetic has solved my problem yet, I’m still trying products.

Ingredients and Formula

This facial serum is composed of a large number of ingredients, something that we can see in its INCI.

The most concentrated active ingredients make up the Whitening Booster System consisting of N-Acetylglucosamine, Kojic Acid, and Niacinamide. These active ingredients are proven to reduce hyperpigmentation, and it’s fortunate that they are in the first positions.

Also present are different forms of vitamin A, that is, retinoic acid, an active widely used to treat signs of photoaging, spots, and even acne. But care must be taken with this ingredient, as retinol – present in the composition – is a known irritant that is not recommended for sensitive skins.

The salicylic acid can provide a mild exfoliation that will be beneficial to remove dead cells from the surface of the skin; and then, on the other hand we find a peptide -although in a lower concentration- that helps reduce wrinkles, sun spots, and promotes the formation of collagen.

I have also seen a beneficial plant extract: purslane. However, I have also seen that it has fragrances and colorants.

Texture, Scent, and Packaging

One of the aspects that surprised me the most is its texture. The cream has a light pinkish tone. As soon as you apply this serum, you notice that the lotion is very fluid and light, so it does not add a greasy or sticky feeling.

The only drawback is that it takes a while to be fully absorbed. Because of this, you’ll have no choice but to wait a few minutes to continue with the use of other cosmetics.

The smell was too strong for me. This is not surprising, since it contains artificial fragrance. Honestly, I prefer products that smell like nothing, as the mix of scents when combining several cosmetics is very unpleasant to me.

Its packaging differs a bit from that of most serums. It consists of a plastic tube with 30 ml of lotion. Even so, it lasts quite a while, since you will use a small amount with each application.

How to Apply It Correctly

First of all, you should know that this treatment is recommended exclusively for nighttime use due to its retinol content. Its mode of use is as follows:

  1. Cleanse and remove makeup from the face with your usual products. This step is fundamental to ensure that the other skincare products work correctly.
  2. I recommend applying a bit of toning lotion. There are many versions aimed at solving pigmentation issues. They also provide a pleasant sensation of calmness and balance the pH.
  3. Next, it’s time to apply our serum. Pour a little lotion on the tips of your fingers and distribute small drops over the nose, forehead, cheeks, and chin. Spread the product evenly by gently massaging.
  4. Do you have spots on your neck and décolleté? In that case, you can also apply some serum to both areas.
  5. Wait until it dries completely to proceed with the application of other cosmetics. Although it takes a while to absorb, you should not remove the product with a tissue or wipe.
  6. Avoid contact with the eye contour. This part is extremely delicate and requires specific products. The Neoretin treatment could alter the area.

If you still have doubts, I’ve written an article explaining step by step how to correctly apply the serum.

Who I Recommend It To

Obviously, I only recommend its use to those with pigmentation spots on the face.

If you have high sensitivity, be careful, as it can cause irritation due to the presence of retinol.

As for mature faces, I recommend other types of facial serums, since this does not manage to combat wrinkles or the spots caused by aging.

It is also not advisable for use on people with extremely dry skin, as it does not provide hydration.

My Experience with Neoretin Serum

I have used this facial serum for several months, until it ran out, and I warn you that you need to be very patient for the results to become visible.

What I liked the most was that it does not leave a greasy or sticky feeling, although for my taste it lacks hydration and nutrition. In fact, my skin flaked a little due to the presence of retinol, as it is not used to it.

When you apply it at night, you notice the skin is more luminous and even. However, to reduce the spots caused by the sun you have to wait several months.

The darker spots have not been able to be removed. It is also not effective against those caused by aging. In short, it slightly reduces the visibility of lighter spots and provides more luminosity.

So, is it worth the purchase? Honestly, there are other more complete products that while solving this problem also combat signs of aging and provide extra nutrition.

If your skin is not very sensitive and you only have light spots, it might be your solution.

For other cases, perhaps it is best to opt for a different cosmetic or consult a professional for advice.

The aspects I liked most about this product are the following:

  • Its texture is pleasant.
  • The format is hygienic.
  • It has great durability.
  • It combats some skin spots.
  • The price is not high.

Despite providing good results, it has a series of disadvantages that you should take into account:

  • It does not combat the darkest spots nor those generated by aging.
  • It lacks hydration and nutrition.
  • It can irritate or flake the dermis.
  • It takes too long to be fully absorbed.
  • It is only suitable for application at night, so we must look for another option for the mornings.

If you are not convinced, I propose an alternative that may solve your problems.

Better Alternative

After finishing the Neoretin tube, I started using the Nezeni Cosmetics Vitamin C Serum, which although is not a specific product to treat hyperpigmentation, vitamin C does offer anti-spot and brightening benefits.

Indeed, within a few days of use, I could see all its benefits. The tone became even, the fainter spots were blurred, and the skin was more luminous and hydrated.

But what I like most about this product is its natural formula, with concentrated active ingredients, and with a very low concentration of preservatives to avoid the combined effect of cosmetics.

I will continue using it to see if the beneficial results continue and I will tell you in depth about my experience with the serum.

Conclusion

As you could see throughout the article, Neoretin’s serum can be a solution for those who suffer from light spots on the skin. However, to end those that are darker, you will need another type of treatment. In addition, it is not for all skin types and can cause irritation and flaking.

Instead, I’ve discovered the Nezeni Cosmetics Vitamin C serum, and it seems to me a better option to prevent and treat the lightest spots.

In case of doubt, do not forget to consult a dermatologist who can advise you, and, of course, always protect yourself from ultraviolet rays with a good sunscreen. You know that prevention is better than cure.

Other options that I have tried are: the Mercadona version, the Vichy serum, the one from Sesderma, and the one from Caudalie brand.
