Gold Progress Cleansing Oil from Mercadona: My Experience
Ever since the Mercadona makeup remover oil was released, many positive comments have reached my ears; but is it really as good as they say? Here I analyze its strengths and weaknesses and tell you my opinion after having tried it on my own skin.
Korean cosmetics are clear: the oil cleanser is essential to remove impurities and makeup residues. It may seem contradictory that an oil-based makeup remover can remove dirt, but it really does.
I had been looking for an oil makeup remover for a long time but could never find the right one; they were either too expensive or the reviews were not too good, so when I discovered the Gold Progress 24k makeup remover oil, I didn’t hesitate and put it straight into my shopping cart.
I didn’t have much to lose, but my skin might have a lot to gain.
In this post, I tell you my opinion after using this Mercadona makeup remover and also show you what the best alternative is in case you are not a big fan of oil cleansers.
Gold Progress 24k Makeup Remover Oil from Mercadona: What is it and what are its benefits?
It’s an oil-based makeup remover that promises to clean, remove makeup, and eliminate traces of dirt and makeup, even if it’s waterproof.
It also nourishes, moisturizes, and softens the complexion. Therefore, it is especially indicated for the cleansing of dry skin. It can be used on the face, eyes, and lips.
The brand also assures that it provides a pleasant sensation of freshness, regenerates, and rejuvenates; but does it really deliver? You’re about to find out.
Main features
- The package contains 240 ml.
- It has a very economical price. It only costs €5.10.
- It has been developed by RNB Laboratories.
- It has a shelf-life of 12 months after opening.
- It is dermatologically tested.
Formula and ingredients (INCI)
Its formula is enriched with moisturizing active ingredients and gold particles that give it that luxurious and sophisticated look.
It is tested both clinically and dermatologically and ophthalmologically, so it is completely safe for the skin and eyes. Moreover, it has not been tested on animals, something that is very important to me.
Here is the INCI so you can see all the ingredients. Don’t forget they are listed from highest to lowest concentration within the formula.
Aqua, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Polysorbate 20, PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides, Pentylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Parfum, Disodium Phosphate, Disodium EDTA, Benzyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Hexyl Cinnamal, Acetyl Heptapeptide-9, Colloidal Gold.
How to apply?
Apply it with your fingertips on your face, eye contour, eyelashes, and lips. Then, moisten the skin slightly and massage gently in circular motions and rinse with plenty of warm water.
If you prefer, as a final step, pass a cotton disk impregnated with micellar water to make the cleansing deeper. Here you have a more detailed explanation on how to remove makeup correctly.
Analysis
Now that you know what it is, its benefits and main characteristics, and the ingredients it contains, it’s time to tell you what I think of this product and what its advantages and disadvantages are.
Its packaging is very convenient. It has a dispenser that allows you to get just the right amount of product, although, it does have one drawback: if you’re not careful, the product can shoot out and stain everything.
The texture is one of the things I liked the least. It is too dense and not easy to apply. In fact, I find it quite difficult to spread and you have to use a lot of product. Thankfully, it’s quite inexpensive because otherwise, it would be a waste of money.
However, I quite like the perfume. Although it’s sweet, it’s very light and subtle. It’s not cloying at all.
My opinion
I’ve had the opportunity to use this product and, although it has some drawbacks, the truth is that I am quite satisfied with the results. It not only removes impurities and makeup, but it also moisturizes and refreshes the complexion.
It’s the first cleanser I’ve used with these features. I’m usually into cleansing milk or lotions; but some time ago, I read a Korean cosmetics book and fell in love with the double facial cleansing.
So I started looking for cleansing oils like crazy and came across Mercadona’s makeup remover which, at first glance, seemed to have an excellent quality-price ratio. Plus, I have dry skin, so I was looking for a product that would hydrate as well and this seemed the most suitable.
Its texture is what convinced me the least at first. Moreover, looking at the INCI, I discovered that it has some chemically derived ingredients that are not very well regarded in cosmetics (PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate and PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate). And not only that, the gold particles are present in a minuscule amount; they are there but their effects are hardly noticeable.
Still, I decided to give it a chance and tested it directly with ‘waterproof’ makeup and it worked quite well. It managed to remove most of the residue, although it did not completely remove it. I didn’t mind too much because I was going to use micellar water as the second step in facial cleansing.
So, in short, Mercadona’s Gold Progress 24k makeup remover oil is a product that hydrates and removes dirt and makeup, but I think it should be used as a complement to other cleansers.
